About Programme
General Content of the Program

Nowadays, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering continues its development as a multidisciplinary science and technology branch spreading in the fields of machinery, construction, chemistry, electricity-electronics, environment, automotive, ship and marine technologies, aircraft and space technologies, biomechanics and medicine. The field of study of metallurgy and materials engineering covers all phases from the production of metals and its alloys, ceramics, polymers and composite materials to their final use.

The aim of the course is to educate the graduates who have a strong educational background and who can use their education effectively in the field of design, application and communication, with the ability to characterize the structure-property-processing-performance relations of the defined / undefined materials with the relations between the metallurgical production-method parameters, with the experimental methods to be standardized or to be designed and to interpret the results.

Purpose of the Program

Gedik University Faculty of Engineering Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering aims to maintain a modern and international education and training and to contribute to universal science and technology by using the latest educational tools and equipment used in developed countries.
PROG. Director
Prof.Dr. Haslet EKŞİ KOÇAK
History
Metallurgical and materials engineering department has started its education life in 2012-2013 academic year. The department gave its first graduates in 2016-2017 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
Students who complete their four year undergraduate education successfully, graduate with Metallurgical and Materials Engineer.
Admission Requirements
Students who have high school diploma and have enough score in TYT and AYT exams, which are carried out by Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi (ÖSYM), are accepted to the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department. Besides, students who gain vertical tranfer (for ones who have an associate degree) or undergraduate transfer right (for the students of other Electrical and Electronics engineering departments) can also enroll in. Foreign national students are accepted according to the results of YÖS exam which is also carried out by Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi (ÖSYM).
Higher Grade Transition
Students who complete their four year undergraduate education successfully are accepted according to Master Degree acception terms which are determined by Institutes of Science and Technology within Universities.
Graduation Requirements
Students who complete all of the lessons in the programme (240 ECTS in total), gain 2.00 of 4.00 as grade point average and who complete their internship (60 work-days), get the bachelor's degree
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Our graduates have the opportunity to work in various institutions and research centers both in Turkey and abroad. A distinctive feature of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is that this field graduates have a wide range of jobs. This is due to the fact that approximately 70% of all existing sectors are related to materials or materials.

Some industry branches where graduates of our department can work:

Iron and Steel Industry
Nonferrous Metal Production
Automotive
Public Research Institutions
Defense Industry
Ceramics and Glass
Energy
Metalware and Mechanical Product Production
Polymer
Electronic
Welding and Non-destructive Testing
Assessment and Grading
Students take at least two examinations for every lesson they enroll: mid-term and final exams. Conclusive successes of the students are evaluated according to Istanbul Gedik University Educational Regulations.
