Objectives of the Course
|
The aim of this course is to form the general chemistry basis by giving information about basic laws related with states of matter and changes in the state of matter; investigation of a chemical reaction in terms of energy changes, kinetics and equilibrium; electrochemical cells; radioactivity; classification of organic compounds, general structures and basic properties of each class of organic compounds.

Basic properties of gases, liquids and solids, changes in the state of matter, gas laws and ideal gas equation, diffusion of gases, energy changes in chemical reactions, conservation of energy, enthalpy changes, chemical kinetics, reaction rate, factors affecting reaction rate, reaction rate expressions, chemical equilibria, equilibrium law and equilibrium constant, effects of changing concentration, pressure and temperature upon equilibria, acid-base equilibria, acids and bases in aqueous solution, buffer solutions, acid-base indicators, electrochemistry, electrodes and electrochemical cell expressions, Faraday laws, electromotive force, electrolysis, radioactivity, types of radioactive radiation, radioactivity measurements.
