Objectives of the Course The purpose of this course is to present the background of basic concepts associated with the nature of materials design and selection, the construction with materials, the selection of materials for different aims.
Course Content Definition and grouping of engineering materials, the process of design, the correlation between design and material, material selection diagrams, engineering materials and their mechanical properties, material selection criteria for static resistance and toughness, material selection criteria for creep resistance, fatigue resistance and abrasion resistance, the corrosion resistance of materials and preventive measures that must be taken to protect the material from corrosion, material selection criteria for different corrosion environments, the correlation between material selection and shape and the importance of the shape factor, the correlation between production methods and design, material and production method selection diagrams.
