Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to give the students the basic theoretical and practical knowledge on physical principles related to heat, light and hydrotherapy modalities, physiological effects, practical methods, indications, contraindications, and hazards.
Course Content In this course; physical properties of heat, local and systemic effects of heat, hot applications (hotpack, fluidotherapy and paraffin), local and systemic effects of cold, cold applications (coldpack), hydrotherapy, physical and systemic effects of hydrotherapy and water, application methods of hydrotherapy and water, pool therapy, in-water exercises, Whirlpool, Hubber tank, contrast baths, physical properties of light, electromagnetic spectrum, IR and its physiological properties, indications and contraindications for IR, UVL and its physiological properties, indications and contraindications for UVL, laser and its physiological characteristics, indications and contraindications for laser, balneotherapy and its physiological characteristics, indications and contraindications of balneotherapy subjects are included.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 To be able to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills about deciding on the appropriate therapeutic modality, and application and principles of selecting modality in clinical conditions
2 To be able to explain the effect of superficial heat modalities on pain and inflammation and to select the right modality
3 To be able to define the physical and physiological effects of superficial heat modalities
4 To be able to explain the physical and physiological effects of Infrared, Laser, UVL, heliotherapy and cold applications, to know the indications and contraindications of these modalities, and to make applications
5 To be able to explain the objectives, basic concepts and the physiological effects of hydrotherapy
6 To be able to describe the physiological effects and the application methods and areas of moist heat applications, water applications with mechanical stimulation, and fluidotherapy
7 To be able to explain the physiological effects and application methods and areas of spa therapy, pool therapy, and water exercises
8 To be able to explain and objectives and application methods of the tests used hydrotherapy, and to apply these test
