Objectives of the Course This class has four overriding aims:
• To provide you with an understanding of where the job market, careers and the overall “world of work” are headed;
• To help you better know and understand yourselves (personality, behavior, skills, motivators, values, goals and preferences);
• To guide you in establishing internship and career objectives
• To provide you with strategies, action plans and the skills and knowledge you need to achieve these objectives.
Course Content The job market is a jungle – a huge, chaotic, unmapped environment. Before entering, you should be prepared (as the saying goes “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”). Working through these class sessions will help you navigate by providing you with the skills and knowledge you need. You will leave these sessions with objectives, strategies and tactics for your internships and careers; as well as for your academic life.

1 Workshop Introduction: overview of what we will do, when, and why. General discussion of how the world of work is evolving in terms of globalization, technology, mobility, freelancing and rapid change.
2 Personality 1: SSPS (Striving Styles Personality Inventory) inventory results.
3 Personality 2: Detailed discussion on how your motivation style and personality affect your behavior, and how to manage your personality and behavior effectively to maximize your academic and professional (as well as interpersonal) success.
4 Change: Overview of the process of change and how to deal with it effectively. Goals: Identification of your goals and an action plans to achieve them.
5 Identification of values, motivators and skills.
6 Overview of the past four jobs/projects/internships you have had, and classification of tasks into those desired from those undesired.
7 Exploration of past achievements and successes, and the skills you used to accomplish them. Establishment of desired job descriptions and organization profiles.

10 How to secure job interviews.
11 Exceptional Interviewing.

13 How to manage your careers on an ongoing basis.
