Dersin Amacı
|
This course aims to enable the students to understand and analyze the late Ottoman history, society and institutions by providing them with analytical tools of political, economic and social historiography.

Dersin İçeriği
|
This course gives an overview of modernization of Ottoman Empire with a systematic analysis of its social, political, ideological, institutional, and economic aspects. Topics to be covered include the construction of modern army and bureaucracy, alternative paradigms for the Tanzimat era, Young Turk revolution and their ideas, the rise of national economy-national bourgeoisie, the interrelation between politics, society, war and economy during the Balkan Wars, World War One and the armistice, the role of center-periphery relations in Ottoman/Turkish political modernization.
