To teach the rules used in the design of earthquake resistant structures and the methods used in this design.

Course Content

Formation of earthquake, spectrum concept, multi degree of freedom system, modalities in earthquake behavior, earthquake resistant structure design, main philosophy and principles of earthquake regulations, earthquake forces and dimensioning criteria in regulations, spectral analysis and simplified approaches in determining the earthquake behavior, reinforced concrete structural elements behavior, plastic hinge concept, capacity principle in dimensioning, earthquake resistant structure design, earthquake safety, boundary conditions, general behavior of structures, structural irregularities, design spectrum, determination of elastic earthquake load, earthquake load effect, acceleration spectrum, ductility of the carrier system, equivalent calculation load method, mod coupling methods, building systems, rules for reinforced concrete structures, floor displacements, design of basic separator systems, retaining walls.
