Mode of Delivery Face to Face
Type of Course Unit Compulsory
Objectives of the Course The objective of this course for the metallurgy and materials engineering undergraduates is to have a knowledge and ability to define the mechanical tests, casting, heat treatment, surface treatments, ceramic and powder metallurgy and that to design and perform by themselves testing and experiments on the related issues that often implemented on those areas and to analyse and report the results gained both as verbal and written communication.
Course Content Heat treatments (normalization, quenching and tempering, Jominy test), Metallographic Examination (defining the microstructure of the ferrous alloys by basic metallographic operations), mechanical tests (tensile, hardness, impact, torsion), casting (sand casting and metal mould casting and their simulation), surface hardening via diffusion, corrosion, characterization (physical, chemical and thermal properties) of ceramic raw materials, powder metallurgy (powder behaviors, powder shaping operations), Ore leaching (metals gaining in electro-reduction), disintegration reactions (kinetics applications).
