Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to establish theoretical background to analyze Packaging as one of the principal elements of visual communication and thus bonds design and communication to form a relationship between user and product. To have a holistic approach to packaging, basic design elements which it is composed of are studied. Within this content Packaging field researches, materials used and production methods are supported by knowledge on environmental factors, consumer behaviours and buying patterns in order to create contemporary, innovative and creative design products.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 Defines the basic concepts of packaging as a communication element, to establish a relation between user and product.
2 Revises fundamentals of packaging design, design history, concurrent trends and technological developments followed worlwide and nationally.
3 Relates theories of packaging to communication and marketing.
4 1. Relates colour, shape, size and graphic as the physical characteristics of packaging, influencing the process of decision-making, visual perception and buying behaviours.
5 Identifies variety of materials, production methods and printing techniques used in packaging.
6 Interprets concepts of 2D&3D design,typography and branding as the physical characteristics on packaging design.
