Objectives of the Course This course has two primary objectives:
1. To equip students to understand basic concepts and frameworks of political economy.
2. Explore the historical and contemporary trade relations between Asia and America.
Course Content Introduction to political economy – key concepts and theories.
Origins of global economic institutions – Bretton Woods, IMF, World Bank.
Bretton Woods system – structure, role, and collapse.
IMF – objectives, functions, and crisis interventions.
World Bank – development goals and structural adjustment programs.
WTO – global trade governance and dispute resolution.
Impact of IMF and World Bank on Asia-America trade.


Reforming international financial institutions – transparency and representation.

Course Methods and Techniques Lecture, in-class discussions with the lecturer’s moderation.
