Objectives of the Course This course aims for the student to acquire intermediate-level learning skills by conceptually and practically examining the historical process of graphic design and to develop the ability to convey this through written, verbal, and visual descriptions.
Course Content This course comprehensively examines the historical development of graphic design. The content starts with prehistoric visual communication design, covering the graphic and communication systems in Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, and China, as well as the emergence of the Greek and Latin alphabets. It also addresses medieval manuscripts, the invention of typography, Renaissance design, the evolution of graphic design after the Industrial Revolution, and the contributions of Art Nouveau and modern art movements. The course includes the discipline of Cybernetics and explores the postmodern era of graphic design, providing insights into contemporary design trends and technologies.
