Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to identify key figures, symbols, and narratives found in Western and Eastern mythologies, and to analyze the iconographic representations of mythological characters in art, literature, popular culture, and digital visual narratives. The course also aims to develop students’ ability to interpret cultural codes in mythological narratives and relate them to historical iconography.
Course Content
The course covers the representation of mythological figures in art history, the production of meaning through symbols, and the impact of mythological narratives on contemporary art and media. Figures such as Hades, Athena, Apollo, and the Muses from Greek mythology are discussed alongside abstract concepts like the tesseract and contemporary theories such as posthumanism, within the context of iconographic analysis. Each week, students develop critical insights through visual analyses based on a specific theme.
