Course Content
|
The level of this course may be referred to as an elementary stage of proficiency. In this level students learn “writing, reading, listening and speaking” skills in a more detailed level than previous courses of English. Users at this level are expected to be able to handle the main structures of the language with some confidence, demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of vocabulary and use appropriate communicative strategies in a variety of social situations. They should be able to produce written texts of various types, showing the ability to develop an argument as well as describe or recount events. At this level the user has developed a greater flexibility and an ability to deal with the unexpected and to rely less on fixed patterns of language and short utterances. They can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. They can take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining their views. They can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest. They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
